9, 10, 11 of Febuary

I know I know I am super duper late with this but I am trying to start up a business and it is taking so much of my time. But I have three movies to show you ladies this post. The special thing about this post is that it features another fave actress of mine.---Sanaa Lathan, who I just found out that her dad is Stan Lathan. I mean hello Stan Lathan who directed so many shows. Anyway. Below are the movies.

Love & Basketball

This movie was the perfect storyline for people falling in love with their high school sweethearts and living happily ever after. Okay this is very unrealistic in my eyes, but to those who still believe more power to ya! Love & Basketball stars Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps who grow up right next door to one another and end up dating and going to college together. They eventually grow apart but are brought back together through the love of basketball.

Brown Sugar

I remember when I was exhausted from all these same ol movies that were coming out in 2002. And I wasn't going to go see it until I saw Erykah Badu's video 'Love of my Life'. I then said I have to see this movie just to hear this song. Well after watching this movie more than 50x I guess you can say I loved it. Sanaa Lathan and Taye Diggs grew up together through an interest in hip hop music and culture. Taye's character is a music producer while Sanaa plays a writer for, of course the biggest hip hop mag at that time, The Source. This movie was just an all around lovely movie. And showed that Mos Def was actually hilarious. Without giving away the ending, they end up realizing hip hop will always be with them, whether apart or together.

Disappearing Acts

This movie should have been in the theaters somewhere because it was just that good. I mean you have this women on her own who falls for the maintenance man who works on and off to support his kids that she doesn't even know about. This is def a Terry McMillian book turned movie creation. Filled with drama, love, sex, baby's mamas. All that good stuff.
Hopefully you all enjoyed this post and don't bite my head off for being a little late with the next few posts.

Claudine + Jason's Lyric

I missed yesterday's post so I thought I'd double up. As others are watching that wack ass game, I am watching Drillbit Taylor. YaY.

Jason's Lyric is about a guy who has trouble letting his crazy brother live his life due to the guilt he has for letting him take the fall for killing their abusive dad. I love this movie. Allen Payne, also played in New Jack City, is super duper hottie. And a very great actor too. Jada Pinkett Smith plays his girl of interest who tries to talk some since into (Allen) about letting his brother go be a crazy man that he is. Very good movie, but not for children due to violence and cursing.

Now Claudine is a movie about a lady who is divorced twice with a lot of children. Who falls in love with yet another man played by James Earl Jones. The greatest part about this movie was the soundtrack, but it a pretty good adaptation of being on "The Welfare" in the 70's. They stalked your home and made sure you didn't work nor had a man or else he would be put on child support. Boy how times have changed.
Both great movies in my opinion to be on the list.

Crooklyn + Raven Symone

Day 3 of Black History Month

I just love the movie Crooklyn so much, that as a child I watched it more than I ever watched anything. Okay not more than Spice World, but I did watch it a lot. It was funny, and sad and is another movie set in the 60s-70s. The story takes place in Brooklyn where a little girl (Troy) has to deal with being African American, life, being a girl all during a summer. I was told or heard that it was based on Spike Lee's life, but I am uncertain. Spike Lee is one of those writers where you have to read in between the lines in order to understand the movie. But it will always be one of my faves.

Now on to Raven......

Raven Symone has been in my life forever. I used to have her poster hanging in my room when she was a rapper in like 1993-94. I have always been a fan. I've seen every episode of That's so Raven and I have a few of her CDs. I just got word that she will be starring in a new television series for ABC family. And I am totally screaming in my head. After all these years the fact that Raven has maintained such a positive and humble attitude towards her career is so wonderful. ABC/Disney is the type of company that has your back as long as you stay on the straight and narrow. Meaning no Lindsay or Britney episodes. Poor Demi. Anyways, since Raven is just a very wonderful role model for young girl I am so glad they have given her the opportunity to have another show. I missed seeing her on TV. The show is called "The great State of Georgia" and she plays the main character Georgia. I am super excited to see this show and can't wait until it starts.
Thank you all for reading,

School Daze

I just love love love School Daze for many reasons. I really enjoy the singing and being free. Mission college and Hilman were my best memories of what college was like, although fictonal, I assumed it was filled with drama, dancing and Denise Huxtable like characters. All these of watching School Daze I never appreciated how amazing there hair was. There clothing. The African influences of colors. That what Spike Lee was about, he made movies with not only meaning but also a fashion awareness that has become relevant again today.
Being natural is amazing. and being African American is just as good
