News: Fantasia, Halle Berry, Tisha Campbell, the Game

Fantasia just got a role of a lifetime. She will be playing Mahalia Jackson, one of the queens of gospel music. The biopic is based off the the book 'Got to Tell It: Mahalia Jackson, Queen of Gospel' published in 1993.

Halle Berry was featured in the upcoming issue of Ebony Mag. My nana gets this mag so I will not be purchasing it. But I want to read it to see the controversial article that was written. I heard she said some things that were just so horrific to so many people that it's awful. Okay that is me being sarcastic. I read the article online, and all I have to say is get a life to those who judge a women for representing her "black" side more than her other side. Halle Berry is a mother before an actor. Not many people even know she herself is Bi-racial. Most see her as an African American women. Not many job apps ask you if you are multi-racial, they ask you if you are African American or White. On your driver's license it says black or white. If Halle sees her daughter as a "Black" little girl then that is her opinion.

I just heard that Tisha Campbell-Martin has Stage II Lung cancer called Sarcoidosis. She and her family will be in my prayers during this difficult time. I have always been a fan of hers. And she and my brother went to the same high school together.

The episode last night on the game was a little bit draggy. There is something missing on the show that I can't quiet put my finger on it. The usual half hour show picked up where last week left off. Malik is in rehab, Janay is being an annoying baby' mother, Melanie is a little bit of a step ford wife meets crazy lady. Derwin is lying again and Tasha Mack is dating a younger man. Which is gross. Not because he is younger, but because it is Terrence J. Their relationship isn't believable at all. I hope the show gets picked up for another season although it is quiet boring to me now. I keep the hope alive I guess.

Halle Berry

I just love Halle Berry as an actress. Both Strictly Business and Boomerang were two of her most memorable movies to me, before she went all Hollywood on us. She had the short hair cuts back then and used to wear those crazy colors.

In Strictly Business she played a lady who worked in a club who began dating a kinda square guy (Joseph C. Phillips, Cosby Show), while Tommy Davison's character tries to move up in Phillips' company, he helps him become cool. Story line wasn't really all that, but some parts are hilarious.

Boomerang is one the funniest movies ever. It so much variety of things going on. You had Eddie Murphy playing the player of the movie and his neighbor, Tisha Campbell, always yelling at him. Women Stealing, sleeping with your boss; or bosses (Eartha Kitt & Robin Givens). Halle Berry was the shy pretty girl next door who just went with the flow as well as taught students. Grace Jones's part was so hilarious in the restaurant.

I give them both 5Stars because they were just memorable movies.

Chanel Accessories

I saw this pink Chanel Classic handbag. You know the one with the quilted look and the beautiful chained strap. I have never in my life purchased anything on the black market as far as handbags go. Some say stores like Forever 21 and H&M are copy cats of designer duds but that is a different story. As I was scouring the Chanel site I came across some cool finds. Including their s/s 2011 collection. Sorry but you have to call for the prices.

Claudine + Jason's Lyric

I missed yesterday's post so I thought I'd double up. As others are watching that wack ass game, I am watching Drillbit Taylor. YaY.

Jason's Lyric is about a guy who has trouble letting his crazy brother live his life due to the guilt he has for letting him take the fall for killing their abusive dad. I love this movie. Allen Payne, also played in New Jack City, is super duper hottie. And a very great actor too. Jada Pinkett Smith plays his girl of interest who tries to talk some since into (Allen) about letting his brother go be a crazy man that he is. Very good movie, but not for children due to violence and cursing.

Now Claudine is a movie about a lady who is divorced twice with a lot of children. Who falls in love with yet another man played by James Earl Jones. The greatest part about this movie was the soundtrack, but it a pretty good adaptation of being on "The Welfare" in the 70's. They stalked your home and made sure you didn't work nor had a man or else he would be put on child support. Boy how times have changed.
Both great movies in my opinion to be on the list.

Boyz in the Hood

I've seen Boyz in the Hood so many times. And the most memorable moment was when he was a little kid and he and his friends found the dead body in the beginning of the movie. Totally gross but very interesting thing to put in a movie. This movie became the breakthrough for Ice Cube's movie career as a whole. Cuba Gooding Jr. was so adorable in here as well. And Nia Long as well. Watching Regina King drink like a dude just made me chuckle a little. And then you have Morris Chestnut with the damn instant game. I mean come on seriously. Okay some of the movie made sense but other parts were just like o. John Singleton was a great Director back then, I wonder where he is now. Anyhoo, this is a very great example of what it is/was like in South Central, La la land.

Italian Vogue

I missed the issue from July 2008. I actually went to NYC and searched and seacrched. Those newsstands had no idea what I meant. I now know of course where to go to get fashion issues, but at the time it was heartbreaking. Some people collect makeup or Jordans. I collect magazines.
Hopefully I can purchase this issue before it runs out. This magazine is about $20 probably.
I can't wait.

Crooklyn + Raven Symone

Day 3 of Black History Month

I just love the movie Crooklyn so much, that as a child I watched it more than I ever watched anything. Okay not more than Spice World, but I did watch it a lot. It was funny, and sad and is another movie set in the 60s-70s. The story takes place in Brooklyn where a little girl (Troy) has to deal with being African American, life, being a girl all during a summer. I was told or heard that it was based on Spike Lee's life, but I am uncertain. Spike Lee is one of those writers where you have to read in between the lines in order to understand the movie. But it will always be one of my faves.

Now on to Raven......

Raven Symone has been in my life forever. I used to have her poster hanging in my room when she was a rapper in like 1993-94. I have always been a fan. I've seen every episode of That's so Raven and I have a few of her CDs. I just got word that she will be starring in a new television series for ABC family. And I am totally screaming in my head. After all these years the fact that Raven has maintained such a positive and humble attitude towards her career is so wonderful. ABC/Disney is the type of company that has your back as long as you stay on the straight and narrow. Meaning no Lindsay or Britney episodes. Poor Demi. Anyways, since Raven is just a very wonderful role model for young girl I am so glad they have given her the opportunity to have another show. I missed seeing her on TV. The show is called "The great State of Georgia" and she plays the main character Georgia. I am super excited to see this show and can't wait until it starts.

Inclusive-Plus Size

Hello Lovelies, I was doing my usual research when I came across something pretty fantastic. Word the fashion blvd is that H&M will soon have a line for Plus Sized women. I don't know about you all but this is fabulous to me. I mean it is about time. We need to recognize that not all women are a size 0 or even a size 12. So I believe this will do well in the market coming in Spring 2011. Although I am not plus sized, I have been told by many plus sized women that these stores like Forever 21 - which now features plus size clothing - and H&M didn't cater to all women just tiny ones. The dresses are absolutely beautiful and very 50s-60s inspired. I believe it's only in Europe for now, but I see it in the US not to shortly after once the sales are up high.

Inkwell

Hey peoples just like I promised another movie that I feel was great all African American cast. It came out in 1994 and features a boy (Larenz Tate) who is a lil bit on the unusual side. But he and his parents go to stay with some family in Martha's Vinyard. While there he discovers courage, and his feelings for pretty girls (A.J. Johnson and Jada Pinkett Smith). Very enjoyable movie that takes place in the 70's , which I love. One of my favorite movies of all times.
